Norco Summer Car Care Tips

It is always a good idea to take your vehicle in for a checkup when the seasons change. As winter goes into spring and summer and the temperature warms up, it is a good time to give your car a once over and take it in for an oil change if it has not had one recently. Following are five summer car care tips every driver should follow.

Change Your Filters

It is always a good idea to check both your air filter under the hood and your cabin air filter when the seasons change. You always want to be sure that they are clean so that you and your car can breathe easier. Clean filters also allow your vehicle to work more efficiently and save on fuel.

Check the Battery

A corroded battery is not a good battery. After a long winter of rain or inclement weather, it is easy for your connections to become corroded from fluid in the battery evaporating. If you notice any corrosion on your battery, it may be time to get a new one.

Work Out Your A/C

There is nothing worse on a hot day than turning on your air conditioning and it is blowing hot air. Your air conditioning always works better while you are driving so if it still is not cold, make an appointment to get your mechanic to check it out. While you may just want to roll down the windows, a malfunctioning a/c compressor can actually make your engine overheat.

Check All Your Fluids

It is always a good idea to check all the fluids in your car, truck, SUV, or crossover every few fill-ups. Make sure they are all at the levels they should be, especially washer fluid in the summertime. If fluids look low such as brake fluid, anti-freeze or brake fluid, you always want to make an appointment with your mechanic to have it checked out.

Keep an Emergency Kit

As you more than likely will spend more time in your car in the summer, it is always a good idea to keep an emergency kit in your vehicle. Keep a couple of bottles of water for you, extra coolant, an old charged cell phone (all phones can call 911), flares, blanket, jumper cables, and a blanket just in case you break down or become stranded on the road. It is also always a good idea to have some kind of roadside assistance if you take a lot of summer road trips.
